- What are the Literature Circle Roles and which am I best suited for?

Opening:
1. Briefly meet with your group and have a chat about your book.
- What did you notice in your first 20 minutes of reading?
- Do you feel "hooked" or still a little unsure about your choice?
- In what ways does the setting play a role in the lives of the characters so far?
2. Determine your Reading Schedule for Thursday (3/10) and Monday (3/21).
Copy the Chart into your Reader's Notebook = "Reading Schedule"
- How ambitious will you be in your reading schedule?
- If you are going to stick with one book throughout this process - you'll need a separate book for SpringBreak logs.
- If you plan on finishing a book by your return, that's fine, just make sure everyone is in agreement about which book you'd like to read next.
- Don't worry about the "Roles" just yet.
Work Period:3. Log-in to a couple computers in your group so that you all can see 3.3
- Create a sticky naming each partner for that activity.
- Read through each of the Literature Circle Roles, highlighting important details about each.
- Remember Levels of Questions?
4. Create a resume: CN: 3/8 "Lit. Circle Resume" as instructed for #1
- Role
- Skills
- Experience
- Activity
5. Apply for your Role within your group.
- Note: This is not a permanent role. They will rotate.
- Determine each person's role, and add that in to your Reading Schedule.
6. Create a Table Tent for all Five Roles
- See instructions for #3
- Side One: Role and Symbolic Illustration
- Side Two: Description of Role Key Responsibilities while in that role.
- These tents will be used each time.
- Determine your Group's Name and write it inside each tent.
7. With your partner, respond to questions 4, 5, and 6.
8. Discuss your responses in your group, but don't debate - use speaking and listening skills we discussed this week.
9. Create a Double Entry Journal:

- Notes are determined by your Role...always include textual evidence, however.

10. Tonight's Independent Reading:
- Children's Literature Book
- Take notes based on your Role
- Come to class prepared to have a Literature Circle discussion "Warm-Up" session.
